|Description:||CBG - Latest trends and challenges in central bank governance|
|Location:||London, United Kingdom|
|Subject:||In May 2009 the Central Bank Governance Group at the BIS published its Report Ś‘Issues in the Governance of Central BanksŚ’. The report concluded that effective governance lies in Ś‘clear and well-specified objectives, appropriate powers and resources, and close alignment of objectives and incentivesŚ’. With functions and roles of central banks changing as a result of the financial crisis, just how close to this benchmark are central banks today? This event will give senior central bank officials an opportunity to review the trends in central bank governance from an international perspective, discuss the challenges and identify ways forward. The sessions will be based on subjects related to the BIS Report, and are likely to include: Ś• central banksŚ’ objectives and functions - how static or dynamic should they be?; Ś• new financial stability-related objectives - implications for governance arrangements; Ś• the role of legislation in helping central banks fulfil their objectives and functions; Ś• effective decision-making; and Ś• managing risks - how can we prevent or reduce negative impacts to policy outcomes, tangible outputs, and internal processes?
