- Workshop on Culture and Institutions
- Valencia, Faculty of Economics, Spain
- In recent years economists and economic historians have become increasingly aware that studying the origin, nature, and dynamics of various economies requires studying their cultural and institutional underpinnings. Notwithstanding the consensus that it is now proper to speak of culture and institutions, the literature on the topic is still in its infancy, both at the core theoretical level and with regard to specific applications. In building models of cultural transmission and integrating them in the research agenda of political economics, theorists can learn from the wide range of observations provided by history. Furthermore, the recognition that culture and institutions co-evolve reflecting an essentially historical process renders the present unintelligible without a proper knowledge of the past. The benefit that economic historians can obtain from a better understanding and use of these context-specific, path-dependent models seems obvious enough. This workshop will bring together researchers from both disciplines with the aim to foster a challenging yet inspiring dialogue.[gem?_?? den Informationen des Anbieters - according to site editor's information]
